IS THIS AN ACADEMIC COURSE?

No.

The course involves serious textual study and engagement with traditional sources, but the purpose is not academic study for its own sake.

The texts are studied because they point towards Yoga as a practical field of knowledge.

DO I NEED TO KNOW SANSKRIT?

No.

Sanskrit is useful and we will refer to Sanskrit terms and the original text, but previous knowledge of Sanskrit is not required.

DO I NEED TO PRACTICE ASHTANGA YOGA?

No.

The course is open to serious students of Yoga from different backgrounds.

An existing interest in meditation, pranayama or Yoga philosophy will be useful, but a particular style of asana practice is not a prerequisite.

IS THIS MAINLY A PHILOSOPHY COURSE?

No.

The course includes substantial philosophical and textual study, but study is combined with pranayama, meditation, reflection and discussion.

The intention is to bring knowledge and experience together.

ARE THE CLASSES RECORDED?

Yes.

The recorded material forms an important part of the course and allows the teaching to be reviewed during the eight-month journey.

WHAT TEXTS WILL WE STUDY?

The Yoga Sutra is the central text.

We will also use traditional commentaries and selected supplementary texts from the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Sankhya, Hatha Yoga, Yoga Upanishads and Advaita traditions.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE?

To understand Yoga as Samadhi and to investigate the possibility of experiencing directly what the tradition describes.

The aim is not simply to know more about Yoga.

It is to investigate Yoga.

WHEN DOES THE COURSE TAKE PLACE?

December 2026 – July 2027.
